Love God, Love Others

“I love you, Lord.”

“If you love me, keep my commandments.”

“Which ones, Lord?”

“All of them, but especially the “Love me and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:30-31)

“Does as yourself mean in the same way or to the same amount?”

“Yes!”

“But Lord, if I do love like that I’ll get all tied up with other folks and won’t have time for much of anything else.”

“You’re right.”

“But Lord, loving like that is likely to end up costing me money…maybe lots of money.”

“You’re right.”

“I don’t have much money.”

“Do you have enough?”

“Yes.”

“If you need more to be obedient, I’ll provide it. You believe I can do that, don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Do you believe I will do it?”

“I’m not sure.”

“That ‘not sure’ is called lack of faith.”

“Oh.”

(Silence.)

“But I do love you.”

“I know. But you need to spend more time reading my word and listening to my Spirit to improve that lack of faith thing.”
