Before I became a Christian I was a slave to Satan. (Romans 6:16) In various ways and to various degrees I did what he wanted me to do. Now I am a slave to God. (Romans 6:22) In various ways and to various degrees I try to do what He wants me to do.
Was I a better slave to Satan before I became a Christian than I am to Jesus now? Do I still obey my old master more than my new one?
Satan says criticize………………………………Jesus says compliment
Satan says curse………………………………….Jesus says bless
Satan says grab and clutch…………………..Jesus says give
Satan says yell and scream…………………..Jesus says speak softly
Satan says demand………………………………Jesus says request
Satan says be served……………………………Jesus says serve others
Satan says be first………………………………..Jesus says be last
Satan says please self……………………………Jesus says please others
Satan says live it up……………………………..Jesus says give it up
Satan says promote self………………………..Jesus says abase self
Satan says hate…………………………………….Jesus says love
Which of the above lists most closely describes my behavior each day?
When I was young and energetic my sins were mostly commission…I had the energy to act in ways that displeased God. Now that I am older my sins are mostly omission…my lack of energy causes me to not do the things that please God. Both are sinful.
As I grow as a Christian my slavery to Jesus will become the biggest blessing in my life.
